DA: Man threatened to hurt Black pharmacy employee if prescription wasn’t filled quickly, yelled hate speech – OregonLive

A 56-year-old Portland man has been charged with a hate crime for allegedly yelling racist words at a Black pharmacy employee and threatening to hurt that employee if his prescription wasn’t swiftly filled.

Robert Creech is accused of threatening the Oregon Health & Science University employee Thursday morning and then returning hours later to again make threats and use racist language. Police responded after someone at the pharmacy activated a panic alarm.

While police transferred Creech to jail, he allegedly told the officer he “can’t wait for you to get shot and killed,” according to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.

Creech was arraigned Friday in Multnomah County Circuit Court on accusations of second-degree bias crime, disorderly conduct and second-degree criminal trespass, according to the DA’s office.

Also Friday, 60-year-old James A. Keller was charged with a hate crime for allegedly threatening harm while yelling homophobic hate speech at another resident of his Portland nursing home on Northeast 122nd Avenue.

On June 11, Keller allegedly crashed his motorized wheelchair into a woman seated in her wheelchair, in a move that was thought to be intentional. When another resident told Keller to slow down, Keller allegedly yelled threats, got up and charged at the man while using homophobic hate speech and threatening violence, according to the DA’s office.

Police confiscated a knife under the seat of Keller’s wheelchair, according to the prosecution.

Keller faces charges of second-degree bias crime, recklessly endangering another person, harassment and being a felon in possession of a restricted weapon.
